John Grinder's Modelling StrategyJohn Grinder is the co-creator of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP for short). NLP is formally described as the study of the structure of subjective experience. More often, NLP is described as a study of excellence. The approach to studying excellence is to find those who are "excellent" or at least are better, or have a unique approach to some endeavor. Then, we go about a process of learning to do what the model does, in the way they do it. There are 2 main approaches to this. We can do this through methodically discovering the cognitive structures of our excellent example, or through precision imitation. If we go the route of precision imitation, after we can consistently get similar results, we can discover our own cognitive patterns. The 7 steps below are the route of rapidly first gaining skill. 1) Clarify initial outcome after scanning context. 2) Establish "lifelines" / "kickouts" (task-driven, time-driven, signal-driven, etc.) 3) Stop The World (disassociate from past experience, direct visual - auditory channels to peripheral inputs, stop internal dialogue, relax muscles from unnecessary tension) 4) Immerse self in context 5) Respond to corrective wisdom and access appropriate resources 6) Step out of context and move to meta - level. 7) Review choice points from multiple perceptual positions 8) Substitute new behaviors at choice points and review |
