On Calibration

1 : to ascertain the caliber of (as a thermometer tube)
2 : to determine, rectify, or mark the graduations of (as a thermometer tube)
3 : tostandardize (as a measuring instrument) by determining the deviation from a standard so as to ascertain the proper correction factors

My claim is that we experience and perform in a manner consistent to how we are "calibrated". That means our minds organize themselves to perceive, cognite, and behave in a way that is consistent with the abstracted sum total of our experience.

Calibration is one of the core metaphors we use.

One day while pondering the question, "What is enlightenment?" I realized that it's an entirely different way of calibrating oneself to reality than the typical orientation.

A synonyms for calibration would include orientation, congruence, perceptual bias, personal organization, and alignment of cognitive filters.
